Annoying side effect of a med

You may remember that my blood pressure has sky-rocketed around late spring. The doctor has changed my meds and now I am on three different meds to control it. So far, they are working.

I also had been coughing for quiet a while but it never occurred to me that the persistent cough started just around the same time when we changed meds. I do not cough all day but several times during the day.

Last time I went to see the doctor she asked me if the coughing bothered me! And I was like: OMG! Was that the med?

Anyway, since it is only a bit annoying, I decided to keep using it. If it gets worse, next time, I will let the doctor know.

  1. I also take meds for high (and erratic) BP and one of them has the coughing side affect but luckily it doesn't seem to bother me.
I finally gave in about a year ago and also added a water pill (diuretic) to the mix - I'd been reluctant as I have a tiny bladder and pee a lot anyway - but - to my surprise, my BP dropped significantly within just a couple of days. It seems to be one of those meds that either has a great result like this - or does very little for the patient - and it's very hit or miss. But if it's not part of your current meds it might be something to ask your doctor about.

    1. Thank you Margie. I will check to see if my meds have diuretic in either one of them and ask my doctor.

  2. isn't that so frustrating? you take a medication to help one issue and just replace it with another. DH tried so many different meds and the side effects were usually just as bad as what he was trying to fix.

    1. You're right. Some side effects may be really bad.
