Gotta pick my readers' brains

During my upcoming vacation, I will spend Christmas with my BFF and her huge family. They draw names and each adult buys a gift for just another adult. I am prepared for that situation. However, everybody gives gifts to the 4 kids in the family. That part is a bit tricky. I have the two girls covered but there are a couple of boys 16 and 11 (I think). I have no idea as to what to give them. I intend to gift them money. However, I do not know how much is appropriate. What do you think? These kids are my BFF's niece's kids.

  1. I would just match the approximate amount you spent on the girls gift, but I would come up with a different way of wrapping it, I have taped cash around a roll of life savers and wrapped the life savers to look like a Christmas cracker, or made a small slit in the cellophane of a 6 pack of candy bars and stuck the cash in there then wrapped it. One year my Mom wanted to give my sons a substantial amount of cash but wanted it to be disguised. I opened a can of beans from the bottom, emptied the can and washed it. When it was dry I filled the can with dried lentils and stuck the check in the middle of the lentils and taped the bottom of the can back on. Then I wrapped the can for a huge surprise.

    1. Thank you Anne! I spent USD 25/ea on their gifts. So, I guess that is a good amount. Love the idea of wrapping it in a fun way.

  2. Long time reader, first time commenter...I think USD20 is good, you cannot go wrong with that. Enjoy your trip to the US!

  3. I wouldn't likely give them a larger gift than $10-$20(but I'm cheap with our own kids too). Maybe a GC to a fast food place or something like that?

    1. That also is a good idea Cheapchick. Thank you! I will ask my friend if they have any favorite spots. May be an arcade close by?

  4. Gosh, that's a good question! Can you get an idea from you BFF as to what kind of things they're interested in? This might give you a better idea of how much to give. xx

    1. I will do that but knowing my friend, she will not want me to spend my money and probably will tell me something very cheap. Lol!
