Price Comparisons Turkey vs USA

Couple of days ago, I left a comment on Linda's post and shared how much gas costs in Turkey. That gave me an idea of making a list of things to share how much they cost in Turkey versus in the US.

My prices reflect the costs of stuff in Istanbul. This is the most expensive city in Turkey. I have taken the US prices from the Internet. So, there may be fluctuations depending on your area.

I have stated all prices in USD using the average exchange rate in 3 months.

         Turkey          USA
Unleaded Regular Gas (gallon) 5.31 2.35
Ford Focus S Sedan 24,132.20 16,775.00
Jeep Renegade Starting Price 34,895.19 17,995.00
Movie Ticket 6.76 16.50
Iphone 7 Plus 32 GB 1,068.97 769.00
Loaf of Sliced White Bread 1.20 2.98
Coke 12 pack mini cans 5.61 5-10
Box of 100 count Earl Grey Tea bags 4.76 16.90
Starbucks Fresh Brewed Coffee 1.76 2.10

  1. Movie tickets may be that price somewhere in the US, but thankfully I only pay $8.00 for movie tickets. The Cokes just cannot be $20.00 in the US. UGH I do live in a small town with a WalMart! The rest sound about right, but I don't buy tea. It's interesting to see comparisons of prices in different countries. Thanks for that.

    1. Hi Linda, I am sure there is better pricing for movie tickets. what I posted is the most expensive in Turkey and some theater close to NYC in the US. I was surprised at the Coke price too. I took it off Wal-Mart's Internet site but after your comment, I checked at other sites and that seems an odd price. I have found prices between 5-10 so, I am making an adjustment.

    2. My daughter lives in NYC where movie tickets are higher than here. I have looked at those mini-Cokes and the price was outrageous, even here, and with all the bargains I found.

  2. Don't publish this. We write 16,775.00. You got the periods and commas in the wrong place. I know this will not hurt your feelings for me to tell you because your English is impeccable.

Commas go after thousands and periods separate the dollars from the cents.

    1. Haha! True! We write the other way around. I do not know why. Thank you for the warning. Got them all changed. Funny thing is MS Xcel produced this. I guess my area setting is Turkey and that is why.

    2. I had an algebra teacher from Iran. Every once in a while, he would revert to his way of writing algebra problems on the board instead of the US way. He had a room full of panicked students.

  3. I love that you included a box of Earl Grey tea! I have no idea what it would cost in the Yukon (more than down south definitely) nor what it costs here (guessing around £5? Again, depends where you buy it). I tend to go for the box that nets me the most bags for the lowest price. Earl Grey is pricey, though...

    1. Wanted to include something international. Regular Turkish Tea is much cheaper than Earl Grey. I am not a big fan of it but, at our office, tea is brewed by mixing regular tea and Earl Grey. We produce about 6% of the tea in the world and the consumption of tea is the highest per capita in the world exceeding 10 cups. I drink about 5 cups though.
