Istanbul is covered with snow. During the last two days about 2 feet of snow fell down and this metropol came to a stand still. However, major roads have been successfully cleaned and public transportation and emergency vehicles are operating. The public have been asked to not use private vehicles during the snow alert.
The airports are a mess where many flights got canceled. People on some roads got stuck for hours. It doesn't snow this much every year.
I have cleaned my car twice. Most of my neighbors did not even bother. I use the opportunity to play in the snow. Lol!
I am so glad it snowed because this means the water supply will be fine for the summer. Last couple of years we had a big draught scare.
Almost all of the country is covered with snow with the exception of the Med Coast. This cold front came from the Balkans. It is always the Balkans or Siberia where these cold fronts originate.
It has now stopped snowing but, the alert is on till January 28th. They are expecting more.
I am keeping busy with the part-time work and boy does it keep me busy!
Stay safe, warm and healthy!
I googled some pictures of the snow event and it does look gorgeous yet I know how disruptive it is in a location not set up to deal with it. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteThank you Juhli. This happens every five years or so. Some years we never get snow.
DeleteWe got almost 60cm in Toronto last Monday... A disaster!!! I am glad you're safe, warm and busy. I am over playing in the snow, haha but glad you enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a lot of snow too. I bet you are used to it though. Never been to Toronto but I remember going skiing to Mont-Sainte-Anne in Quebec many years ago. It was so cold!
DeleteWhile snow is beautiful it can be horrible if you have to go out in it. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThank you! There really is no compelling reason for me to go outside.
Deletethat's a lot of snow to get! It's good at least they have the equipment to clear the main roads. Where I used to live they only got dumped a big snow maybe every 10 years and hardly had any snow plows, so not much got cleared. We just had to wait until it would warm up in a few days and melt off.
ReplyDeleteOur Mayor who does not belong to the political party in the current terrible government, is doing a great job. He issued alerts way before it started snowing and we started spotting huge plows and salt trucks at the intersections of the major arteries. A metropol the size of Istanbul is extremely hard to manage, especially when the government is doing everything to put up obstacles in his path.
Deletethats a lot of snow! it looks pretty but its good that you don't have to be out in it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I would not like to drive in this weather.
DeleteI’m stuck in again with snow/blowing snow and a windchill advisory of -35! There a saying there’s no bad weather only bad clothing choices but I beg to differ on these type of days. And for me my biggest problem this year is everything from parking lots to sidewalks are covered with heavy ice/snow for over a month. Parking your car and trying to get on a sidewalk is treacherous with the the big banks of snow. Often businesses have a tiny pathway shoveled to get to their sidewalk door. The older I get the scarier falling is.
ReplyDeleteYou're right JRE. I am scared of falling too. Not having to go outdoors is a blessing.
DeleteI would like some snow, but it most likely will not happen. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteHave fun playing in it!
Thank you! Many years ago, it snowed like this and my SIS and I went out to play in the snow close to midnight. She was 20 something and I was 30something. Our grandma watched us the whole time and she said she would have loved to do it too.
DeleteDo people go crazy before a storm like they do here in the states? I live in Connecticut, and we haven't been really "snowed in" since 1977 (huge blizzard where the highways were closed for days). Now every time they announce any amount of snow more than an inch or two, people rush to the supermarket (for bread, eggs, and milk) like we'll never get out again.
ReplyDeleteHi Bobbie! Yes, some people do that here too. Haha! I lived in Stamford, CT for a year in 1990. Good times, good memories...
DeleteHad no idea you get that much snow in Turkey! We just had quite a bit of snow here over the last week, along with low, single-digit temps. But having the fireplace going 24/7 keeps us warm & cozy inside! Hubby goes out the clean off the driveway, and I stay inside baking & crafting! It's all good! Stay safe....and WARM!
ReplyDeleteOh yes we do get snow. We have all four seasons and Eastern Turkey is mountainous so, they get tons of snow each year. Thank you btw. You stay safe and warm too!
